Josh Auty 2

FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, will have a better idea after Thursday whether they are likely to see No 1 Josh Auty racing again in 2015.

The 24-year-old Yorkshireman returned to action last Friday after nine weeks on the sidelines with a broken hand. He showed no ill effects, and was unbeaten by an opponent in three races, storming through from third to first in typical fashion in the closing stages of Heat 6.

But he was then brought crashing down post-race in Heat 10 by Ipswich’s Australian rider Rohan Tungate on the second bend of the warm-down lap. Video footage has been supplied to the Speedway Control Bureau regarding Tungate’s behaviour, and the Scorpions management are awaiting the outcome on that.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Josh’s hand was too swollen after the incident last Friday, and so the doctors couldn’t tell if it was broken again or not.

“He’s going to the hospital on Thursday, and then we should have a much better picture of where we are with Josh. We can only hope for the best.”

Former Scorpion Thomas Jorgensen will come in to guest for Auty for the home meeting against the Plymouth Devils at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm). Jorgensen was a brilliant guest for the Scorpions against Peterborough a fortnight ago.
