SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey reckons that the Premier League meeting against Glasgow Tigers this Friday (7.30pm) will be “the match of the season so far” at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, have shown much improved form over their last couple of home meetings, with wins over Newcastle (53-37) and Workington (54-38), despite remaining injury-hit, with Ryan Douglas joining Josh Auty on the sidelines.

Scunthorpe still have a chance of reaching the Premier League play-offs, but can ill-afford to drop any more home points.

Glasgow Tigers have been taken over by brothers Gerry & Michael Facenna, who have spent over a million pounds on improvements to the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium, as well as assembling a powerful side.

Godfrey says: “We performed so well against Workington last week, but Glasgow will present us with a massive test this Friday. The Tigers have new owners this year, who have put together a very competitive looking line-up.

“In Nick Morris, Richard Lawson and Aaron Summers, they have three riders who are all of No 1 standard, and the rest of their side are no slouches either.

“I’m convinced if we ride like we did last week, we can beat them, but it’s not going to be easy by any means. It does promise to be the match of the season so far at the Eddie Wright Raceway, with every single point fought over.

“It will be a brilliant night of speedway, that’s almost guaranteed, and I hope the people of Scunthorpe turn up in force to get behind the Scorpions, to see if we can overcome the big spenders of the Premier League.”
