FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, face the Workington Comets in Premier League action at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm), in what could be a closely-fought contest.

The Scorpions are without the injured duo of Josh Auty and Ryan Douglas, with guest Ashley Birks and rider replacement covering in their absence.

Australian star Alex Davies is due to race tonight, despite suffering a badly lacerated thumb in last week’s 53-37 home win over Newcastle in the Knockout Cup. Davies will ride against the pain barrier against the Comets.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We’d fancy our chances at home to Workington with a full team. But even without Josh & Ryan, I think we can still pull it off.

“Ashley Birks needs no introduction to our fans, and Ash will always put in 100% when he rides for us.

“But the real key could be at reserve. The difference between us and Newcastle last Friday was that we outscored them by 15 (paid 19) compared to six at reserve.

“If we can put together another solid team performance, then that could see us through and gain us the three PL points.

“The weather looks set to be fine for the whole day, while the action on track in the evening could be red hot.”
