FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, are aiming to win their first league match of the season, when Workington Comets travel to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (7.30pm).

Scunthorpe’s fine 53-37 win against Newcastle last Friday in the Travel Plus Tours Knockout Cup was tempered by injuries to Ryan Douglas and Alex Davies.

The Scorpions hope to welcome back Davies from a thumb injury, but Douglas seems set to be ruled out for a few weeks with a small fracture within one of his vertebrae.

Josh Auty is still out with a broken hand, and has already withdrawn from next Monday’s (June 15) British Final at Wolverhampton, in which Carl Wilkinson has been drawn to wear the No 1 racejacket.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We need to beat Workington on Friday – it’s as simple as that.

“We’re not where we’d like to be in the Premier League table at the moment.

“But the team showed great spirit to open up a 16-point lead in the cup match against Newcastle last week, despite the injuries to Ryan and Alex during the meeting.

“With a performance of similar determination, I’m sure we can overcome the Comets and get some home Premier League points on the board.”
