FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, welcome back the Newcastle Diamonds to the Eddie Wright Raceway for the second time this season, in the first leg of a Knockout Cup first round clash tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).

The second leg is at Brough Park on June 28, and the aggregate winners will progress to face the Glasgow Tigers in the quarter-finals.

The Scorpions’ season so far has been somewhat blighted by injury; the club have only won one meeting to date in 2015, and that was a 53-37 League Cup triumph over the Diamonds at the Eddie Wright Raceway on April 17.

Rob Godfrey says: “It’s a while since we’ve gone on a cup run, so we’d like to get past Newcastle into the next round.

“Every single point is important tonight. The bigger the lead we can take to Brough Park, the better chance we stand of getting through.

“We’ve booked a good guest in Ben Barker, who comes in for the injured Josh Auty, and Ben’s presence should take some pressure off our riders. We’re looking for a good all-around team performance tonight.

“We’ve already beaten Newcastle once around the Eddie Wright Raceway this season, and their top scorer from last time, Anton Rosen, is currently out of action with a broken collarbone. But the Diamonds will be fired up for this meeting as well, and it should be a night containing some top notch racing.”

Admission prices for tonight:

Child (10 – 17): £5.00
Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult)
