Glorious day of sunshine speedway lays ahead
30 RACES of exhilarating speedway… that’s what lays ahead at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway this afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday, 3pm).
The action begins with the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, taking on reigning champions Edinburgh Monarchs in Premier League action, with the Scorpions looking to avenge a 39-53 defeat in Scotland on Friday night.
That’s followed up with a National League challenge match between the Scunthorpe Stags and the Halifax Dukes, featuring the return of 2005 Scorpions’ captain Wayne Carter in action for the Dukes.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “There’s been some really thrilling meetings between us and Edinburgh down the years at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and I don’t expect today to be any different.
“There’s going to be some mouth-watering clashes between our lads and the likes of Craig Cook and Sam Masters.
“It’s important that we get our Premier League home meetings off to a winning start, and that’s what we’ll be aiming to do. We’ll be fighting for every point.
“It appears we’ve been really lucky with the weather. It was a dreadful Sunday, until late afternoon when it became really sunny and warm. The spell of dry weather is set to continue all day today.
“It’s going to be a fantastic, packed afternoon of speedway around the best racetrack in British Speedway.”
The Scorpions will again be without David Howe, who is recovering from damaging his shoulder in a workshop accident, while Ellis Perks is also missing with damaged knee ligaments, after taking a hefty fall at Kent last Monday, while representing his National League club, Cradley Heath.
Rider replacement will operate for Howe, while Scunthorpe asset Matt Williamson comes in for Perks.
