Busy bank holiday weekend ahead for Scorpions
FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, will be involved in three meetings over the Bank Holiday weekend, culminating in the visit of reigning Premier League champions Edinburgh Monarchs to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).
There will actually be 30 heats of exciting action on track next Monday, with the Premier League clash followed by a National League challenge match between the Scunthorpe Stags and the Halifax Dukes.
Details of the fixtures are:
Friday, May 1… Edinburgh vs Scorpions (Premier League)
Sunday, May 3…. Newcastle vs Scorpions (Knockout Cup)
Monday, May 4… Scorpions vs Edinburgh (Premier League) followed by Scunthorpe Stags vs Halifax Dukes (National League challenge)
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Our home meeting against Edinburgh is going to be a huge test, because the Monarchs always assemble a good side and this year is no different. There have been some absolute belters between the two sides at the Eddie Wright Raceway over the years.
“But with a vocal crowd behind the team, I’m sure we can pull it off. We do need the three league points from this meeting.
“It’s going to be a real speedway feast next Monday, bearing in mind we also have the Stags in action against Halifax.
“It will be a tremendous afternoon of speedway action around the best speedway track in the country. I urge our loyal supporters to tell their friends about it, and get them along, while I hope speedway fans from further afield are also tempted to travel over to us and enjoy the Eddie Wright Raceway experience!”
* Team news to follow later in the week.
