Mellgren in for Scorpions
SWEDE Anders Mellgren comes in to replace the injured David Howe for tonight’s League Cup clash between the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, and the Redcar Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway (Friday, 7.30pm).
Scorpions’ No 1 Howe has injured himself in an off-track accident.
Mellgren was signed by Scunthorpe in 2014, but completed just one full meeting for the Scorpions, before picking up a serious back injury at Redcar.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It makes perfect sense using Anders as the guest for David.
“He knows the fastest route around the Eddie Wright Raceway, plus he lives locally.
“The fans never got to see much of Anders in a Scorpions’ racejacket last season, so this is another opportunity.”
Godfrey is predicting another night of cut-and-thrust action at the Eddie Wright Raceway, following last week’s highly exciting 53-37 win over Newcastle.
“The meeting against Newcastle contained some superb racing, and tonight’s meeting could well be in the same vein as that.
“The Redcar team includes a number of riders who go very well around our track, including their guest Thomas Jorgensen. It will be strange seeing Thomas in anything but our colours, but I’m looking forward to seeing him battling against our top five.
“We had a great win over Newcastle, and we fully intend to back that up by beating Redcar tonight.”
