BRITISH Speedway superstar Tai Woffinden insists he’s in good shape and raring to go for the opening Grand Prix of the season this weekend.
Scunthorpe-born Woffinden will take his place in the LOTTO Warsaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland on Saturday less than a week after a heavy crash in a league meeting for Betard Sparta Wroclaw.
“There’s no problem, I’m fine,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to it, this is what a winter of hard work in the gymnasium has been about, building up to Saturday night.
It’s an exciting time of the year, everyone has high hopes and optimism for a new campaign and I’m no different. I want to be in contention for the world title and that means I have to be consistent.
“The winter training has been good, I certainly feel fitter than at any other time in my career and that includes 2013 when I won the title.
“I’ve put the hard yards in, early morning starts and evening spin classes, I’ve done the lot.
“My first four rides went good at the weekend , I scored 11 points out of a possible 12 and it would be nice to keep that form going into the GP.”
Woffinden will fly back to Poland from his UK base on Thursday to step up preparations for Warsaw with practice on Friday.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to it, it’s a new venue and I can’t wait. I’m going there with a positive attitude and try and score as many points as I can, just like last year and the year before.
“I feel well prepared, I feel up for the challenge, I feel fit and ready to go, so let’s bring on Saturday night.
“There are a lot of riders who will fancy their chances of pushing for the world title, it’s a wide open field this year.
“There have been times in the past when you look at the racecard and think you have a banker of a race, but there’s no such thing this year, everyone is there to do a job and there will be no easy races that’s for sure.”
The 2015 LOTTO Warsaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland takes place for the first time in the stunning Stadion Narodowy at 7pm local time, 6pm GMT, this Saturday night.
Woffinden is the current World number four having won the title for the first time in 2013.
