FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, are involved in their first home meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway this afternoon (Easter Monday, 3pm). And it’s local derby time, with the Sheffield Tigers providing the opposition in a League Cup clash.

There are 30 heats of action in total, with the Scunthorpe Stags hosting Buxton Hitmen in a National League challenge match in the second half.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “A terrific afternoon of speedway is ahead. Sheffield have a good team this year, as we found out when we went to their place 11 days ago. Simon Stead is a class act, while Ashley Birks needs no introduction to our fans, having been a Scorpion for the last three seasons.

“But we feel we’ve got a good team too, with a strong top five, and two talented reserves. I can’t wait to see how they perform as a unit around the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“We’ve put together a team of entertainers and I feel we’re in for a season of cracking racing. And it begins this afternoon with what I’m sure will be a hotly contested local derby.”
