FORMER England captain Nigel Boocock has passed away in Australia at the age of 77.

Boocock enjoyed a 25-year domestic speedway career, spending the majority of his time racing for Coventry (1959-76) with spells also for Bradford, Birmingham, Ipswich, Bristol, Exeter and Canterbury.

He reached eight World Finals, finishing fourth at Wembley in 1969, and also partnered brother Eric to third place in the 1970 World Pairs.

Nigel and wife Cynthia retired to Australia, where he was still a strong supporter of the sport, and he passed away peacefully on Good Friday morning.
