David, Josh (& Thomas) in Ricky Ashworth line-up

SPEEDWAY’S great entertainers are on their way to Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium on Sunday (March 22, 5pm).

Riders, fans and sponsors have rallied round for former Tigers star Ricky Ashworth who has been left with life changing injuries after a track crash in 2013.

British Champions Scott Nicholls and Chris Harris will make a rare Owlerton appearance ahead of the new Elite League season with Belle Vue and Coventry respectively.

Other top international stars Rory Schlein (King’s Lynn), Freddie Lindgren, Jacob Thorssell and Peter Karlsson (Wolverhampton) and Davey Watt (Poole) are also included along with current Premier League Riders’ Champion and home skipper Simon Stead and Scunthorpe ace David Howe.

GB World Cup rider Chris Harris, who won the 2007 British Grand Prix in one of the most amazing results the series has ever seen, is delighted to lend his support.

Said Harris: “I’m looking forward to riding in the meeting for Ricky up at Sheffield.

“It’s obviously a great cause, and hopefully we can raise loads of money to help him as much as possible.

“It’s extremely sad what has happened to him and it’s a bit of a reminder as to how dangerous speedway really is.

“I suppose it could happen to any of us, so like all the riders I’m happy to help out by riding in his meeting.

“Sheffield is a good, fast track so there should be some good racing, and hopefully it ends up being a great meeting which Ricky deserves.”

Gates open for Ricky’s Big Day at 3.30pm and the action begins at 5pm.
