PREMIER LEAGUE PLAY-OFF excitement comes to Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway this week, with the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions involved in their opening two semi-final group matches.

The Scorpions travel to Ipswich on Thursday evening, before entertaining reigning champions, the Somerset Rebels, at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm).

Friday’s clash is the biggest meeting at the track, since the Scorpions defeated Somerset by a single point on aggregate in such unforgettable fashion to win the 2012 final.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey: “This is what the whole season has been building up to. The points are reset to zero; we have to score more points in our four play-off meetings than Ipswich and Somerset. It’s as simple as that.

“We built a team we believed would get stronger as the season went along. We showed our best spell of the season directly before the play-offs, and it’s now up to us to continue that in these matches.

“I firmly believe we can do it, but it won’t be easy. Somerset and Ipswich finished second and third in the table and are both quality teams.

“At the start of the season, we won a thriller at home to Somerset by two points. We will be aiming for a better result than that this time around. But we need our fans in attendance, making plenty of noise, to cheer the lads home. It’s going to be a great night of racing, and one that people will not want to miss.”

* Team news to follow by Tuesday evening.
