FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain the Peterborough Panthers at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm), in a crucial clash where both teams are after precious Premier League points, to aid their respective play-off bids.

With just over a week to the cut-off date for the play-offs, fifth-placed Scunthorpe are currently in the stronger position of the two clubs, and three points for the Scorpions tonight would move them onto 43 points and into a very healthy position indeed in their quest finish in the top six.

Eighth-placed Peterborough are not out of the running by any means, and will be chasing an away win in a meeting that is a genuine ‘seven-pointer’.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “This is a key meeting for us. We can’t afford to slip up at home to Peterborough. A win against the Panthers and we’ve probably got enough points for the play-offs, although that will become clearer in the days to come.

“We were maybe a bit unlucky not to win at their place on Tuesday, losing by a point, but tonight we need to beat them.

“There’s been nothing in it when we’ve rode Peterborough this year, either at our place or their place. The margin of victory for the home team has been 3, 2 and 1.

“A fantastic night of speedway action is ahead, I have no doubts about that. We need the fans to get right behind the team, as we look for an important victory.”
