Another important week ahead for Scorpions
A TRIP to Peterborough tonight (Tuesday, 7pm) starts another important week for the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, as they look to maintain their position in the top six of the Premier League table, prior to the championship play-offs.
The Scorpions host the Peterborough Panthers in the return fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm) in another crucial home meeting, and are also involved in a fixture at Berwick on Saturday night.
The Scorpions had a successful week last week, winning three out of four meetings against Redcar and Workington, to collect eight points, which have left them in a healthy looking fifth position.
However, with the cut-off date for the play-offs less than two weeks away, it is vital that the Scorpions, at the very least, match the Panthers across the two fixtures this week.
Team manager Dave Peet said: “Ideally we need to bring some points back from Peterborough.
“We ran them very close in the cup match earlier in the season, and also put in a good performance in the fours at Peterborough, where we finished third despite missing Josh (Auty) and Nicolai (Klindt) and actually knocked out the Panthers at the semi-final stage.
“The meeting at Peterborough is going to be nip and tuck, but it is a track we can ride, and we need to come back from there with at least a point, if not more.
“We would love to take six or seven points from the two meetings against the Panthers, but we need to get four as a minimum.”
With the start of the new month, David Howe moves up from reserve with Ashley Birks replacing him at No 7.
The Scorpions have juggled their team order, with Howe moving up to No 2, Thomas Jorgensen shifting from No 2 to No 5, while Ryan Douglas moves from No 5 to No 3.
Expected teams for tonight:
Peterborough Panthers: 1. Lasse Bjerre, 2. Adam Roynon, 3. Richard Hall, 4. Ulrich Ostergaard, 5. Ales Dryml, 6. Max Dilger, 7. Nicki Barrett.
FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Nicolai Klindt, 2. David Howe, 3. Ryan Douglas, 4. Josh Auty, 5. Thomas Jorgensen, 6. Tom Perry, 7. Ashley Birks.
