NEW SIGNING Tom Perry is set to make his debut for the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Eddie Wright Raceway this afternoon (Sunday, 3pm), in a vital clash with fellow play-off contenders Workington Comets.

The meeting is a double-header, also featuring a Scunthorpe Stags vs Stoke Potters National League match.

The Scorpions just missed out on a point in a 41-49 defeat at Workington last night, but are looking to hit straight back by collecting all three league points from this afternoon’s big showdown.

21-year-old Perry has been signed to replace Matt Williamson, who had been struggling with a hand injury.

Scunthorpe are hoping to attract families to the Eddie Wright Raceway this afternoon, with an offer which sees all children aged 17 and under admitted for free.

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I think it’s going to be a cracker this afternoon – with two teams out for points to qualify for the play-offs.

“Workington picked up six points last night, and they’ll want to keep up the momentum.

“In contrast, we’ll be out there to collect a win, and add further points to our account, to strengthen our claim to fifth place in the Premier League table. The one thing we can’t afford to do is to lose at home to the teams chasing us, such as Workington. It’s a vital meeting for us.

“With all kids coming in for free, we’re hoping to see new faces in the crowd, to enjoy the only motorsport with no brakes and no gears. With 30 heats of action in total, it’s going to be a packed afternoon of high-octane excitement.”
