“Cup final” for Scorpions
FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions start a critical spell of four Premier League meetings in five days, with the visit of the Redcar Bears to the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Wednesday, 7.30pm).
The two teams meet again at Redcar on Thursday evening.
The Scorpions are currently in sixth place, the final qualifying position for the Premier League play-offs. Redcar are seventh, just two points behind Scunthorpe, and will be seeking home and away wins over the Scorpions over the next two nights.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “This is like a cup final for both teams. Redcar can really ride the Eddie Wright Raceway well; they have riders who like our track.
“It’s going to be an absolutely cracking night of speedway, with both teams after precious points, and we need our fans to be noisy and get behind the lads.
“Both this meeting and Sunday’s home fixture to Workington are massive to us. We can’t afford to lose at home to the teams chasing us in the Premier League table.”
The Scorpions will be using rider replacement for No 1 Nicolai Klindt, who has a commitment in Denmark tonight.
