SCUNTHORPE stage a 30-heat feast of speedway at the Eddie Wright Raceway on August Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

First up is a Premier League fixture, between the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions and the Redcar Bears, with the Scorpions after vital points as they look to consolidate their place in one of the play-off positions. The Scorpions are currently fifth in the table, with the top six qualifying for the play-offs.

The second half of the action sees the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Stags entertaining the Buxton Hitmen in National League action. It probably represents the best chance for the rookies of the Stags’ team to register a win this season.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Our bank holiday double-header meetings represent excellent value at just £17 for 30 races.

“It is a very important fixture for the Scorpions – we do need the three points from this meeting, as every point is vital as we look to make sure we have enough points to be in the end-of-season play-offs.

“Any team can win it once the play-offs begin, but first we have to make sure we’re in them. We need the fans behind us, to make sure we take maximum points from the Redcar meeting on Monday.

“We’re also be doing our annual collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund on Monday, and I hope supporters give generously to a very worthy cause.”
