BIG MATCH PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE V BERWICK
SCORPIONS SEEK TOP SPOT
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are seeking to complete a quick-fire double over the Berwick Bandits at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday) at 7.30pm, knowing that a victory would take them to the top of the Cab Direct Championship table.
Scunthorpe won a thriller in Northumberland last Saturday by 46-44, so any margin of victory would see Scorpions collect three points including the aggregate bonus point, to move onto ten league points overall, ahead of Poole and Workington.
A big blow for Scorpions at Berwick was a broken collarbone for Danish star Michael Palm Toft, who faces up around six weeks on the sidelines.
Scorpions lost their 100% Cab Direct Championship record with a 34-55 defeat at Oxford on Wednesday, but are looking to bounce back against Bandits.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve already beaten Berwick by 63-27 at the Eddie Wright Raceway last month in the Cab Direct KO Cup, but we know the scores start again at 0-0 on Friday evening.
“We’re confident that we can do the job against Bandits, but not over-confident or complacent.
“Michael’s injury certainly took some of the gloss off the fine away win at Berwick and we missed him badly at Oxford, since he is good around there.
“At home, we will use rider replacement for Michael because the rest of the boys are all flying at the EWR anyway and for the away matches, we’ll decide on a match-by-match basis between booking a guest or using R/R.
“We’ve had a good start to the season. We’re through to the semi-finals of both the BSN Series and the Cab Direct Knockout Cup, and a strong start in the league. But no team can go through the whole season without the odd setback.
“We’ll looking to return to winning ways against Berwick, before taking revenge against Oxford at the EWR next week.”
