Chessell claims fourth victory

Kent Kings’ Luke Chessell became just the fourth rider, after Oliver Greenwood, Stuart Parnaby and Gary O’Hare, to win four amateur meetings at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday. The meeting started on a wet track after early morning rain but very quickly dried and, as usual, produced some first class racing.

Other class winners during the six hour, 74-race, festival of racing were Sam Darroch (Support), Dan Miles (Novice), Jack Parkinson-Blackburn (Youth 250), Kean Dicken (Youth 150) and George Hopper (Juniors) whilst the Dirt Track Riders Association also incorporated junior flat track and pit bike races.

Following the meeting club promoter Rob Godfrey was really delighted with how the meeting had gone. “These meetings are amazing. To have 50, 60 or 70 riders turn up, get six rides a piece in the space of three hours and produce some great racing along the way is incredible.

“The team of people who help run these meetings for us are fantastic. The way they devote their time is very humbling but it is really appreciated. They cope with any problems that come their way, like the rain before the meeting, and just keep the job running. It means we can run this many races and accommodate so many riders. It strange when people say there is nothing for rider development in Britain when we have these meetings.

“We are obviously lucky to have a track that copes so well with the rain and I understand we haven’t lost a Summer Championship meeting since 2009. It’s a shame that the three or four riders who went home an hour before the meeting didn’t stay for the start and see how quickly things improve here. They would have soon seen no one was having problems.
