FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions’ No 1 Nicolai Klindt won his Grand Prix qualifier in Ljubljana, Slovenia yesterday (Saturday).

The 25-year-old Dane scored 13 points from five rides, including 4 wins, and then pulled off a stunning defeat of Slovenian Matej Zagar, the winner of the recent Finnish Grand Prix, in a run-off for first place. Zagar is currently just three points off the lead in the World Championship.

Klindt is now just 10 rides away from qualifying for the 2015 Speedway Grand Prix series.

A jubilant Klindt tweeted: “I’m really happy to win this meeting. I don’t think anyone, including myself, would have put money on that.”

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey added: “We offer Nicolai our sincere congratulations. He really is on top form at the moment; he’s given us such a boost since we brought him into the team.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Douglas scored 8 points for Australia in yesterday’s World Under-21 Team Championship Semi-Final.

Australia finished second to Czechoslovakia and are now left sweating on the result of the second semi-final. The highest scoring runners-up from the two semi-finals progress to the final. Great Britain finished third and were eliminated, after being in the running for much of the meeting.
