Amateur meeting draws good turnout

Nearly sixty riders turned out for the second round of Scunthorpe Speedway’s Summer Championship on Sunday as 88 races were completed on a gloriously sunny day. In the Open Class it was 2011 Summer Championship Winner Mirek Daniszewski who got the better of visiting New Zealander Dale Finch, three-time championship winner Gary O’Hare and Andrew Blackburn in the ‘A’ Final. In the Support Class it was Jack Hall who impressed on his debut whilst in the 18-rider Novice Class 15-year old Luke Whitehead claimed victory.

In the Junior Classes Jack Parkinson-Blackburn (250cc) and Kean Dicken (150cc) reigned supreme whilst Keiran Holt (Youth 110cc) and Simon Ellis (Adult 160cc) won the pit bike classes. Sadly Scunthorpe Stag Liam Sanderson broke his collarbone in his first ride and looks set to miss the side’s next three National League meetings.

After the meeting organiser Richard Hollingsworth paid tribute to everyone involved. “Apart from poor Liam’s crash it was a great day. It was really hot so I have to take my hat off to everyone involved. The riders produced some great racing but the meetings are such a success because of the number of volunteers who help run them. We are totally indebted to them.

“The junior numbers were low today because of the Leicester round of the British Youth Championship but the three adult classes had great turnouts. The meetings seem to just go from strength to strength and ninety races is about average now. Long may it continue, starting with the next meeting on June 29th”.
