Successful operation for Anders
SWEDE Anders Mellgren, the No 1 for the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, had a successful operation on his injured spine yesterday (Friday).
Mellgren crashed during the opening race of Scunthorpe’s 27-63 defeat at Redcar on Thursday night, after a tangle with Bears’ No 1 Richard Lawson on the first corner.
Mellgren underwent a five-hour operation, during which a metal rod was inserted into his back.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The good news is that there is no damage to the spinal cord, and Anders has movement in his legs.
“He does have a break. But everything should heal itself over time.
“Everyone at Scunthorpe Speedway wishes Anders a speedy and full recovery. It’s gutting for the lad. But at the same time, we’re thankful it’s not even worse.”
The Scorpions have booked Sheffield’s Leigh Lanham as a guest for the visit of Redcar to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (3pm).
