THE SCUNTHORPE STAGS are involved in three meetings in the next five days, starting with a Knockout Cup fixture at King’s Lynn tonight (Wednesday).

The Stags then travel to Coventry in a National League match on Friday, before entertaining King’s Lynn in the return leg of the cup in the second half of a double-header at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (the start time of preceding Scunthorpe Scorpions v Redcar Bears League Cup clash is 3pm).

The Stags are without Reece Downes, Arron Mogridge and Tyler Govier, all of whom were injured during last Sunday’s Scunthorpe vs Kent NL fixture.

Chairman Richard Hollingsworth said: “Reece Downes has had his broken wrist pinned in Sheffield. It will be six weeks before the pins can be removed.

“It seems that Arron Mogridge won’t need an operation on his broken finger. He’s got to go back to the hospital in Stevenage in ten days for a further check-up. He’s also got bruising, but it’s his finger injury which will determine how long he is out for.

“Tyler Govier aggravated existing wrist and shoulder injuries, and he is doing some physio to try to rehabilitate his wrist.”

With Danny Ayres unable to come into the team for the foreseeable future, Hollingsworth is using youngsters Sam Woods and Adam Kirby as temporary replacements for all three meetings this week, while Adam Portwood (at King’s Lynn) and Conor Dwyer (at Coventry) will also be given outings by the Stags.

The vastly experienced Lee Dicken then comes into the side at No 1 for Sunday’s home meeting – and will become part of a redeclared Stags’ team.

Hollingsworth said: “Lee can’t commit himself to every single meeting, but he will be able to pass on his experience to the other riders.

“He will also give the team better shape – Steve Jones will move out of No 1 to No 5 which will benefit him, while it means none of the youngsters have to ride at No 5. Arron Mogridge’s paid six score on Sunday was all the more creditable in that it was scored from the No 5 position.

“Lee’s introduction will be beneficial to the rest of the Stags’ side”, concluded Hollingsworth.
