Mellgren & Williamson make Scorpions’ debuts – cracking day of racing ahead
BOTH Scunthorpe teams, the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions and the Scunthorpe Stags, take to the track for the first time in 2014 at the Eddie Wright Raceway this afternoon (Sunday).
The action starts at 3pm, with the Scorpions taking on local rivals, the Sheffield Tigers, with League Cup points up for stake. It will be followed, at approximately 4.30-5pm, by a National League clash between the Stags and Kent Kings.
Swede Anders Mellgren, the club’s new No 1, and Lancastrian Matt Williamson both make their debuts for the Scorpions.
Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The weather is set fair for this afternoon – we should see some cracking racing.
“It’s the first meeting for a brand new Sheffield Tigers promotion, and they’ll be looking to put one over us. I’m sure many of their fans will make the short journey up the M18.
“In turn, we will be looking to start the season with a win. We’ve had the upper hand in our local rivalry against Sheffield in the last two seasons, and we’d like to see that continue.
“All-in-all, it’s going to be a fantastic afternoon, with some 30 races in total.”
