THE Scunthorpe Stags have announced the riders who will complete their 2014 line-up.

In the near future the side will be completed by 18-year old Kent based Danno Verge and 27-year old Motocross convert Danny Ayres from Cambridge. However, while Verge will line-up in the season opener at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday, Ayres’ debut is likely to be a few weeks away. In the meantime, Exeter-based 17-year old Tyler Govier has been named in the club’s line-up for at least two weeks.

Club Chairman Richard Hollingsworth explained the signings had all been made in the last few days after two expected signings didn’t materialise.

He said: “Our plans had to change but I’m really pleased with the two signings we have made. Danno is already ready for the National League and got a few meetings last year. He was very quick in practice at Scunthorpe and he has only just turned 18 (today). He’s prepared to travel all the way from Kent to ride for the Stags, which shows real commitment, and is really excited to be getting this opportunity. He has real potential and I’m sure we’ll see that come out over the course of the season.

“Danny Ayres might be a bit older but he is a man in a hurry. He has a good Motocross pedigree and is moving up to Scunthorpe to maximise his track time. He is going to start out by riding for Castleford in the Midland Development League, but he is a real raw talent and I’m sure he will soon be in the Stags’ line-up. I’m not exactly sure when that will be but, for now, Tyler Govier has agreed to be in the line-up to start the season and, at the very least, he will ride in four of the first five meetings.

“He can’t ride at Coventry next week but he’ll have at least four meetings to showcase himself to ourselves and the rest of the league. It’s going to be great to finally get on track on Sunday and whilst I must reiterate that we aren’t worried about results early in the season, I’m sure the potential will be there for all to see. These are really exciting times for the club”, Hollingsworth concluded.

The Stags will line up for Sunday’s meeting, at home to the Kent Kings, in the following race order:

1. Steve Jones (captain)
2. Ryan MacDonald
3. Danno Verge
4. Tyler Govier
5. Arron Mogridge
6. Liam Sanderson
7. Reece Downes

The preceding FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions vs Sheffield Tigers League Cup match gets underway at 3pm, the first in a number of Sunday double-header meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
