EGG-TRAVAGANZA OF ACTION ON EASTER DAY

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions face a huge test to their League Cup credentials when they face local rivals Sheffield Tigers in what is likely to be a cracker of a local derby at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Easter Sunday (3pm).

It forms the first half of 31-race feast of speedway, with a 16-heat four team tournament in the second half pitting the youthful Scunthorpe Stags against the Halifax Dukes, Hull Vikings and Buxton Hitmen. Former Scorpions’ captain and club legend Wayne Carter will be in action for Halifax.

Scunthorpe have one injury concern in Carl Wilkinson and will be looking at how Wilko copes with a small break in his collarbone in a meeting at King’s Lynn this evening (Thursday).

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Sheffield are fancied by a lot of people to do well in the Premier League this season, but I’d like to see us continue the momentum we built up in our opening two meetings against Ipswich.

“We emerged from our clashes with the Witches with five precious points, in what was a very positive start to the season, and we’d like to build on that.

“It’s going to a great day of racing. It should be a terrific local derby with plenty of hard-fought racing. Plus we’ve got Wayne Carter, a Scorpions’ legend and a key man behind the scenes at the Eddie Wright Raceway, in action in the four team tournament in the second half.”

Easter Sunday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 16 extra heats of action. A full and exciting afternoon of racing is ahead. DON’T MISS IT!
