SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey has paid tribute to club backer Derek Lockwood, who died after a battle with cancer.

Lockwood, who ran Hull-based Spares Unlimited, was a well-known figure at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Godfrey said: “Derek was a pivotal part of our club, going right back to the Magnus Karlsson days. When Magnus left, he continued to support us and a lot of the riders, helping people like Ryan Douglas and Michael Palm Toft.

“He ran a very good motorcycle business in Hull, while he was speedway through and through.

“His death has come as a bit of a shock to us and is another sad statistic to that horrible disease. It’s a very sad end to a terrible season for us.”
