TAI Woffinden has revealed how the enjoyment factor was a big part of his Slovenia success.

Scunthorpe-born Woffinden scored 18 and finished runner-up to reigning world champion Greg Hancock in the Mitas FIM Slovenian Speedway Grand Prix last Saturday and now leads the title race by 25-points.

It means he needs 39-points from the remaining three rounds to win a second title in three years, regardless of what his rivals do.

He heads to Stockholm for round 10 of the series at the stunning Friends Arena for the Tegera Stockholm FIM Speedway Grand Prix in a great position – but insists nothing has been won.

Said Woffinden: “I really enjoyed the night but I was struggling early on for the right set-up. A couple of weeks earlier in Gorzow I knew we had it set-up right from the start but this wasn’t the case.

“I’m happy with the result, to get on the podium again was great for me and even though I didn’t win the GP I still got the points I needed to keep me going at the top of the leader board.

“I’m still not taking anything for granted because anything can happen, there’s still 63 points to race for and the form Greg was in on Saturday he’s really coming on strong now.

“Every Grand Prix is hard. All I can keep doing is scoring the points and get closer to my target. I’ve got some big meetings in Poland and Sweden with the chance of winning two league titles and then we have Stockholm and the next round of the Grand Prix.

“Last time we were in Krsko I was on the podium and I did it again on Saturday, so I can’t ask for much more than that. I’m happy.”

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS (Top 10): 1 Tai Woffinden 127, 2 Greg Hancock 102, 3 Nicki Pedersen 98, 4 Matej Zagar 89, 5 Niels-Kristian Iversen 81, 6 Chris Holder 78, 7 Jason Doyle 77, 8 Maciej Janowski 72, 9 Michael Jepsen Jensen 66, 10 Peter Kildemand 59.
